The pinwheel sign: artifact from head rotation during SPECT acquisition for dopamine transporter imaging.
نویسندگان
چکیده
This case study illustrates the pattern and significance of the pinwheel sign, a SPECT artifact from rotational head motion that can complicate the diagnosis of Parkinson disease. Monitoring the patient during image acquisition is crucial since rotational motion artifacts are difficult to identify on raw or processed images and may lead to incorrect interpretation of findings.

The semicolon sign: dopamine transporter imaging artifact from head tilt.
Dopamine transporter (DAT) imaging is a valuable tool to aid in the diagnosis of Parkinson disease and other Parkinsonian syndromes. DAT imaging is special among clinical nuclear medicine scans in that the already small caudate and putamen are presented in multiple thin axial cuts. Because the imaged basal ganglia are small, slight differences in head tilt may result in a significant artifact t...

Objective(s): The purpose of this study was to examine the optimal reconstruction parameters for brain dopamine transporter SPECT images obtained with a fan beam collimator and compare the results with those obtained by using parallel-hole collimators. Methods: Data acquisition was performed using two SPECT/CT devices, namely a Symbia T6 and an Infinia Hawkeye 4 (device A and B) equipped with fa...

Objective(s): To evaluate the role of Tc-99m TRODAT-1 Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) in Parkinson’s Disease (PD) by assessing the correlation of clinical disease severity, disease duration and age at onset of disease with specific uptake ratio of Tc-99m TRODAT-1 in striatum. Methods: The study included 63 patients in age range of 40-72 years with clinical diagnosis of PD and ...
متن کاملThe truncation artifact in a skinny patient following myocardial perfusion SPECT
Myocardial perfusion SPECT is one of the most common imaging techniques performed in nuclear medicine departments. To avoid misleading interpretation, it is necessary to address the quality control and technical problems. The truncation artifact occurs when the patient size is large relative to the field of view of the camera, causing false perfusion defects in the LV myocardium, misinterpreted...
متن کاملReducing bladder artifacts in clinical pelvic SPECT images.
UNLABELLED SPECT imaging of the pelvis is hampered by the presence of bladder artifacts, which render up to 20% of the images unreadable. The artifacts are caused by the high level of activity in the bladder and by the change in activity level as the bladder fills during data acquisition. The changing activity, together with the inhomogeneous attenuation of the pelvis, leads to inconsistencies ...
